Hidalgo County has launched the Hidalgo County CARES Small Business Grant Program to assist businesses with expenditures related to the cost of business interruption caused by the required closure related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Funds for the Hidalgo County CARES Small Business Grant Program funds were provided by Congress through the CARES Act to support COVID-19 relief.
Grants in the amounts of $5,000 and $10,000 will be disbursed based on business annual net income of $250,000 or less. Funding for the program is provided by using up to $3.5 million in allocation of the CARES Act funds. This $3.5 million will be available for grant funding, providing over 700 small business grants for the program.
Funding will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis until funds are depleted.
|The program will be administered by PeopleFund, who will provide technical assistance to applicants and will operate in conformance with the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act federal guidelines.|
To qualify for funding under this program:
Grant money may only be used for the operating expenses of the awarded business. The operating expenses are defined as the day-to-day trading operations of the business such as payroll, accounts payable, rent, mortgage, and/or cover lost revenue. Grant money may NOT be used to pay property taxes. Grant amounts are sized based on total annual net income of the business.
